Destination Tags

Here is some clarification on what Destination Tags are, and why they are used.

*This guidance applies to Coinbase, Kraken, Bitstamp or to ANY Exchange (or XRP wallet) that requires a Destination Tag for incoming XRP transactions.

Most Larger Cryptocurrency Exchanges require the use of a Destination Tag when sending XRP to any wallet that is held by that Exchange.

The reason the bigger exchanges require a Destination Tag is that they use 1 XRP wallet address for all incoming XRP transactions. They then use the Destination Tag, to send the XRP from each individual incoming transaction to its proper destination. Therefore, if you are creating a jetPay for a wallet that is attached to one of these Exchanges, you MUST include the Destination Tag as part of that jetPay. Otherwise, when you give that jetPay to someone as a means of receiving XRP, the XRP will never arrive in your exchange-based wallet. And these Exchanges are usually very unforgiving about that sort of mistake. You will find links to a couple of Exchanges’ policies on Destination Tags below.

At JetPay™, we give you clear, easy-to follow instructions on Creating and Activating your jetPay the correct way. So that you will have no problems receiving your XRP. We even have an in-depth Tutorial Video that you can watch and use as a guide while you Create and Activate your jetPay’s – whether or not they require a Destination Tag.

Here is a link to the Coinbase destination tag policy. And here is a link to the Kraken destination tag policy. Destination Tags MUST be included when you Create and Activate a jetPay for an XRP wallet that is associated with an Exchange, which likely uses Destination Tags (most of them do). This also applies to any jetPay that you wish to associate with an XRP wallet that shows a Destination Tag when you look at the “Receive” screen. You can Verify that your jetPay wallet address and Destination Tag (if required) have been entered correctly by going to the Paystring Validator website, entering the jetPay you created, and reviewing the information that is returned. If you feel that you have made an error in Creating and / or Activating a jetPay, please Contact Support.

Thank you for using JetPay™. We are happy to be your paystring provider!
